What is Iridology?

Iridology – Irid = Iris, ology = study of, or the study of the iris of the eye.  It is a gentle, non-invasive way of identifying inherited strengths and weaknesses.  Specific markings and different coloration’s within the iris show areas of the body that needs nutritional support.  The iris is also a map to help us understand the connection between mind and body, relationship attractions, and genetic behavioral patterns that make us who we are.

Iridology dates back centuries to the ancient Chaldeans, Tibetans, and Chinese.  Its printed history begins in Europe with Dr. Ignatz van Peckzley correlating weak areas of the body to specific markings in the iris.

In the U.S., Dr. Bernard Jensen, Iridologist, nutritionist, lecturer, leader in the field of Iridology (and grandfather of Jon Jensen); has brought Iridology to the mainstream of holistic health with it becoming more and more recognized as a tool in understanding areas of inherited weakness in both humans and animals.  Presently, as in the past, many primary health care doctors have used this form of analyses along with other diagnostic techniques to facilitate a more complete understanding of their patient’s health care needs.  Iridology does not claim to identify and name diseases, but works as a valuable guide in preventative medicine.

“The iris of the eye is the most complex tissue of the body meeting the outside world.  It is an extension of the brain, being incredibly endowed with hundreds of thousands of nerve endings, microscopic blood vessels, muscle and other tissues.

The iris is connected to every organ and tissue of the body by way of the brain and nervous system.  The nerve fibers receive their impulses by way of their optic nerve, optic thalami and spinal cord.  They are formed embyologically from mesoderm and neuroectoderm tissues.   Both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are present in the iris.  Nerve fibers in the iris respond to changes in the body tissues by manifesting a reflex physiology that corresponds to specific tissue changes and locations.

In this way, Nature has provided us with a miniature television screen showing the most remote portions of the body by way of nerve reflex responses. We are discovering that the eye works two ways; not only does it enable us to bring images of the outside world within, it also shows images of what is within to the outside.” ~Iridology Simplified by Dr. Bernard Jensen, D.C.

Why Use Iridology?

Next

Since the dawn of the healing arts in ancient times, we have made great progress in our understanding of that complex organism we call the human body.  Whether we are using our understanding properly is another question. Progress, it seems, is a mixed blessing.  Along with advances in technology, we have pollution.  Most of the food in this country is sprayed with chemical pesticides and grown in soil denatured by highly concentrated chemical fertilizers.  When we consider these and other factors, we must realize that we live in an age in which it has become increasingly difficult to build and maintain an adequate level of health.

In the health and medical fields, advances in both knowledge and technology have been so overwhelming that an age of specialization has been spawned.  There are podiatrists, ophthalmologists, proctologists, chiropractors, osteopaths, homeopaths, nutritionists—we could go on and on.  But, while specialization produces experts with a great deal of knowledge about one particular system or aspect of the human body; this creates a dilemma, since the human organism functions as a whole, unified, complex system in balance.  When any part of the system suffers, the entire organism is adversely affected.

What we need is a whole system of analysis and a whole system of treatment for the whole person.

It is due to an awareness of this need that the concept and practice of holistic health has received its impetus.  Practitioners in the healing arts and sciences throughout the world are re-examining their methodologies and priorities.  Many in the field of the healing arts feel that we are on the verge of a revolution in the field of health and that natural healing methods will play a major role in the coming years.

The great advantage of Iridology is that it lends itself  handily to an immediate survey of the state of health in every part of a person’s body.  The iris of the eye reveals tissue conditions everywhere in the body, indicating the areas in need of further investigation.  Because of this, Iridology is an invaluable tool to primary health care professionals using the holistic approach.

We must define Iridology as the science of analyzing reflex conditions in the iris corresponding to pathology in the body.  The iris of the eve shows the changes that are going on in the body and reveals abnormal tissue conditions.  Iridology’s greatest value is that of allowing the detection of chemical and physiological changes in the body long before the appearance of the particular set of symptoms which would be classified and named as a disease.

Underlying all symptoms characteristic of known disease states are tissue changes in the body caused by chemical imbalance, toxic deposits, poor circulation, inherent weaknesses and so forth.  To understand how dis-ease develops in the human body we must first understand what is going on in the organs, bloodstream, nervous system, circulatory system and glands to bring about the changes, which culminate in disease.  Iridology provides a wealth of information about the vital processes and tissues of the body.

Who is Noted Iridologist Jon Jensen?

Jon Jensen is the grandson of the late Dr. Bernard Jensen who is generally regarded throughout North America as the forefather of Iridology (for more information on Iridology click here).  Jon has had obvious advantages growing up with his grandfather and living at The Hidden Valley Health Ranch where he was exposed daily to the value of proper nutrition and Iridology.

As Dr. Jensen’s young protégé, Jon filled many roles over the years while learning personally from “the master” and he participated in the many classes and projects run by his grandfather. Jon’s experience includes working closely on special projects with Dr. Jensen such as: doing the research for many of his books, helping to pioneer a new way of iris analysis using the computer, assisting with the many seminars and the materials needed for each. Jon has done literally 1000’s of eye analyses, all while under Dr. Jensen’s helpful and watchful eye.

Jon’s knowledge and commitment was put to the test when he offered to be at his grand-fathers side when Dr. Jensen became paralyzed from the waist down.  Over the next year Jon became an integral part of his grandfathers plan to begin walking again.  It was during this time that Jon truly became a believer in the absolute importance of treating the whole person, body, mind and spirit in order for a person to reach and maintain a level of optimum health.

After his grandfather’s recovery, Jon shifted his attention to filling in the few gaps that he knew existed in his knowledge base.  In recent years Jon has taken his substantial training to a new level by completing classes and studies with some of the prominent leaders in the fields of Rayid and European based Iridology.  Jon is highly trained in nutritional education and counseling and he also holds the title of certified master hypno-therapist.

Jon Jensen is available for consultations and speaking engagements in the field of Iridology throughout the United States and Canada.  Please contact Jon at: j23jon@aol.com
